2001 Mulholland Edition Prowler
2001 King Ranch Edition Ford F-150

Laddie RousselI called the sales # this morning and spoke with someone named Dave. He said they are working on a system for the Prowler. He said they are testing it on a Kat somewhere in South Texas. The technical person working on the design and testing is out until next Tuesday.

He said initially they had replaced all the water and coolant with the NPG+ and had positive results. However, they wanted to go further and are developing a system including a radiator and not sure what all else...I did mention that a few of the CA guys had tried new radiators and not sure that helped that much. He said there are lots of factors and the design and capacity along with other things have to be considered. The technical person would be the one that could provide all the answers.

He said Evans should have more information next week and I should call the back than and talk with the tech person...

Very helpful on the phone. So, I'll call back next week...

CatwomanMike, I was serious when I said thanks.....and Laddie, I really appreciate you posting your conversation with Dave. I'm checking with some of my "racing" friends and am seriously interested in this stuff. I haven't tried "Wetter Water" or whatever that additive is but we definitely need something here in AZ. When it's 118* outside anyway, the car is going to need any help possible. Otherwise, we'll be replacing radiators every other year. If this can be used in our current systems without modification, I'd sure be interested in trying it.

Just because something doesn't boil, doesn't mean it cools better than a standard coolant.
I see nothing in the "benefits" stating that it cools better or even as good as standard coolant.

I also strongly question their claims of better mileage, more power and reduced emissions by changing coolant.

Am I missing something here or is this just another ad for snake oil or items like the electric supercharger, performance chip and fuel line magnets?

Larry - here is text copied from another page of their web site explaining why they state it improves performance and mileage. Do you disagree that engines can be more effiecent and perform better if operating at higher temperatures? My (unfortunate) experiences have been that my cars have on occassion run fastest JUST before something breaks on them. If the engibne could perform at these levels WITHOUT breaking, I can see that the performance may be improved.

"Engines have the capacity of operating at much higher efficiencies which lead to higher power production. The limiting factor has always been the conditions imposed by water-based coolants, including low boiling point and excessive vapor generation. These conditions cause localized coolant boiling, vapor blanketing at hot spots and the resultant destructive detonation and pre-ignition. In some applications, coolant alone will improve fuel economy and reduce emissions; in others simple mechanical modifications may be required.

When vapor blankets the surface, water-based coolants lose their ability to absorb heat from the hot spots in the combustion chambers, leading to high metal temperature spikes well above critical levels. The result is loss of power from detonation or component structural failure from pre-ignition in the form of piston damage, head gasket failure, and/or warped or cracked heads.

Water-based coolant is operated near its boiling point. Cylinder liner cavitation erosion is caused by vibration-induced high frequency pressure changes at the metal-coolant interface. Coolant, near its boiling point, makes vapor bubbles that abruptly collapse against the metal surface, causing erosion of the metal. EVANS NPG Coolant contains no water and is not operated near its boiling point.

The boiling point of EVANS (non-aqueous propylene glycol) NPG Coolant is 370 degrees F in a non- or low-pressurized system. The coolant is normally controlled at conventional temperatures but functions perfectly well at higher temperatures, even considerably higher temperatures. Detonation/pre-ignition control and previously forbidden combustion chamber pressures and temperatures are no longer the danger they were to thermal engine efficiency and durability."

Also - I agree with your opinion on the fuel line magnets and the advertised claims of untested performance chips and electric superchargers. I think the key to this is the untested claims. Companies need to do dyno runs and real world tests before making "matter of fact claims" in thier advetising.

Neal & Mary Ann BardensThis is a interesting product. We use a similar product in our heat exchangers at work with good results. I for one am going to try it on one of my Kats. The biggest problem I have seen is the air flow in and around the engine on our cars. Gary is right in saying that venting helps. If you lower the engine compartment temperature you will lower the engine water temperature. Several people have suggested using water wetting agents like wetter water. The issue I see with that is that wetting agents contain caustic and corrosive chemicals. These chemicals are hard on aluminum, copper, brass, and carbon steel. When these chemicals are mixed with high heat over long periods of time they attack these metals.
